Are you passionate about being at the forefront of the data management framework and shaping the foundation of the Finance and Risk Data Domain? We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Data Modeller to strengthen our team and contribute to the constant development of the Finance and Risk Information Model (FRIM).

Your job

As part of the Data Model and Control team, you will be at the core of data management, designing data models, engaging with stakeholders to ensure clear definitions and relations, and contributing to harmonisation of data across Finance and Risk Management.

Business Data Modelling enables us to understand the meaning of data and its relation to other data, so that assumptions and ambiguity are replaced by certainty. It allows us to clearly define what data is needed to generate reports, dashboards and data analysis for customer insights, and provides one common language. Within ABN AMRO, Finance and Risk have a business data model called ‘FRIM’, which stands for ‘Finance and Risk Information Model’ and consists of a Lexicon and Business Logical Data Model.

FRIM is constantly in development. New regulations must be taken up in the model, existing reports, capabilities, and risk models need to be translated into FRIM and where necessary the model needs to be extended.

The key activities you will be responsible for:

  • Perform Business Data Modelling, by designing changes to the business data model (Lexicon), and further developing modelling principles and guidelines.
  • Lead discussions with subject matter experts, requestors, and other stakeholders to understand and challenge the scope and the content of the requirements.
  • Break down requirements into a structured information model that contains terms, definitions, and relations.
  • Perform stakeholder management with requirements owners, subject matter experts, and users of the data models.
  • Perform information analysis: being the bridge between business and IT.
  • Execute tasks related to terms, definitions, and relations in applications.
  • Discuss, refine, and establish clear and semantically correct definitions.

Note that this role is all about modelling data structures. You do not look at the actual data, do not access databases, do not use statistical or other big data analysis techniques. The team is responsible to make sure that the process runs smoothly and that the right questions are being asked so that we end up with the best possible business data model.
